The key regulation is Section 49a of the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO), which governs the use of lighting equipment, including trailer lights. Trailer lights are used to make the dimensions of the trailer visible to other vehicles. Therefore, they must function reliably, especially at night and in poor weather conditions.

Technical Specifications for Trailer Lighting

Our trailer lights are fully encapsulated, which makes them highly resistant to external influences. This provides them with special protection against dust and water, ensuring they function reliably even during prolonged heavy rain. The power supply is 12 or 24 volts.

All type approvals—also known as E-marks—are present and engraved on the trailer lights. Depending on their function, these include:

Both trailer lights have the following functions:

  • Red taillight
  • Red brake light
  • Yellow turn signal

These functions are available on both the left and right lights mounted on the trailer. Differences between the two: The left light has a rear fog light, and the right light has a white reverse light.

For the trailer lights to work, they must be connected to the vehicle’s battery. That’s why we at LED Martin offer a wiring harness that can be placed under or hung from the trailer and connected to the taillights. This wiring harness is TÜV-approved and certified. The cable is 5 m long and has a 13-pin connector at one end. This set is suitable for all trailer lighting sets available from us.
